5 Days – Rongai Route

Mount Kilimanjaro Climb – Up Rongai Route, Down Marangu Route 6 Days / 5Nights.

We avoid the crowded Marangu route on Kilimanjaro, preferring to approach the mountain from the north by the lightly used Rongai route. The Rongai route starts just south of Kenya- Tanzania border and has been almost unused for many years because the area was considered sensitive. Now open for climbing once again, experienced guides consider this ascent route to be both easier and more beautiful than the main Marangu trail. The Rongai route begins in attractive farmland and delightful forest, with the possibility of wildlife viewing, and passes through several different climate zones, adding considerably to the interest of the trek. We also add an extra day to the standard five-day itinerary to ensure maximum acclimatization and give ourselves the best possible chance of enjoying the magnificent scenery. Recent National Park statistics indicate that the chance of reaching the summit increases by at least 30% if an extra day is spent acclimatizing. The deviation to Mawenzi Tarn is very beautiful and on a little–used trail through moorland. This route retains a sense of unspoiled wilderness and offers a different perspective on Kilimanjaro by approaching it from the north.

5 Days – Umbwe Route

Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing 5 Days / 4 Nights – Umbwe Route, Down Mweka Route

Many climbers use this route to descend instead of ascend. Either way, it is after Mweka the next steepest route. It is also quite scenic and relatively infrequently used.

5 Days – Marangu Route

Mount Kilimanjaro Climb – Up Marangu Route, Down Marangu Route 5 Days

The Marangu route has beautiful views and each day of walking progresses through a different climate zone, adding considerably to the interest of the trek. The real highlight is the walk from Gillman’s point along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, passing close to the spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area. The views on a clear morning are absolutely magnificent – the rift valley, Mt. Meru, and the Maasai Steppes stand out from the endless plains almost three vertical miles below as the sun rises behind Mawenzi.

Note: On this program it can also be done for 6 days / 5 nights. Extra day and Night spent at Horombo Huts, a visit to the foot of Mawenzi peak for acclimatization.

8 Days Great Wildebeest Migration Season (May – July)

The Great Wildebeest Calving Migration Safari has been designed specifically to focus on following the Great Serengeti Wildebeest migration during calving from December to April. The areas to be covered are the Lake Ndutu area, as well as the Southern and Central areas of Serengeti National Park where the majority of the wildebeest are usually found. A visit to the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater is part of this safari as well.

The Southern Serengeti and Ndutu areas in Tanzania are the best locations for the months of January, February, and March to witness thousands of wildebeest spread across the plains grazing on the rich short grass plains. Predator action is at its peak with great sightings of cheetah, lion, hyena, and leopard and a very good chance to see adrenalin-packed kills.
